[COMPILATION] Shinhwa Facts: From SM to ShinCom, 1998-2012

1. Shinhwa debuted under SM Entertainment with 6 members. Until now Shinhwa still has 6 members w/o any member change
2. Hyesung was the first member recruited. Dongwan was the last (edit: Jin was the last acc to Wiki..but I thot Wan mentioned he was the last.. anyway WanJin indeed the latest members to join Shinhwa =]]). RicSyungDy recruited in USA. Dongwan by street-casting XD
3. Debuted in 1998, their 5y contract w/ SM ended in 2003. MinSyung were the ones who got offered solo contract first..
4. But as you all know..they refused the contract..and all six prefered to leave SM together to stay as a group
5. the only lawsuit they had w/ SM was about Shinhwa’s name copyright. Shinhwa won. They left w/o breaching any contracts
6. That’s why they didn’t get blocked and their relationship with SM has been ok until now..
7. Yet somehow their name copyright is w/ Open World Ent (dont ask how/why, I dunno..complicated business). Eric must go thru days of negotiation to get permission from OW CEO to use Shinhwa name to establish Shinhwa Company last year. OW Ent agreed they could use it for free (real free or not I dunno) under one condition: they hv to stay together as Shinhwa.
8. Andy left temporarily in 2001..yet the members kept reminding everyone “Shinhwa is 6..not 5” Andy was back in 2002
9. Andy left bcos his mother was sick (win win 2012)..but many rumors about that during that time..dunno it was true or not xD
10. Shinhwa’s name was originally B.S.T like some kind of korean soup… =_= Luckily they finally named “Shinhwa” xD
11. While Shinhwa Changjo’s name was suggested by H.O.T’s Moon Heejun… It means “creating legend/creation of the legend”
12. Shinhwa’s #1 album was a failure.. SM would hv disbanded them if second album flopped too.. Luckily it didn’t
13. T.O.P was their first win…saved them from disbandment crisis. Yet they didn’t cry when they won =]]]
14. During T.O.P, Dongwan was the most popular member xD but it dropped bcos he was too strict to SHCJs + he gained muscles lol
15. “Shinhwa isn’t responsible to your lives” is what Dongwan (and Shinhwa) said to SHCJs xD
16. “Let’s show our true-selves to fans. Do what we think it’s right (ex: scold them abt school)..even though we hv to lose them”
17. Bcos of that attitude, Shinhwa-SHCJ relationship is more like love-hate/long-time married couple than mere idol-fans XDD

19. The fandom ofc went thru “immature” period too..but as time goes by..we grow up (and old =_=) with Shinhwa,become mature
20. Like most idols, Shinhwa lived together at dorm too.. But only during SM period..
21. During that time, their bonding method was: taking a bath together to erase awkwardness =]] and ofc Little Prince was shy XD
22. Hyesung would often wait for them finished bathing outside bathroom, instead of joining LOL
23. They pranked each other in bathroom too XD Replace shampoo with tomato sauce, made Andy thought his head was bleeding lol
24. Shinhwa once went to Europe for 6th jib (Deep Sorrow if im not mistaken u.u)..and were happy few ppl recognized them hehe
25. After SM, they signed 5y contract with Good Ent.. Many were sceptical if they could be back successfully w/o SM
26. as it was first time idols changed company.. and Eric started acting in drama..and Minwoo started as “M” too
27. Very rare idols to hv solo career that time..so ppl thot they wouldn’t make it. But they were back with 7th album in 2004
28. “Brand New” sold over 300k copies (physical) and won them their FIRST Gayo Daesang almost 7 years after debut
29. It’s said they’re supposed to win daesang in 2002 for “Perfect Man” but (rumor has it) SM gave it to BoA instead
30. They had to be called 7x times before finally realised they won the Daesang.. then instantly hugged each other XD
31. After that..they ditched reporters at the press conference, to thank SHCJs first for making them winning the Daesang
32. They had “Battle Shinhwa”..the first open audition contest to find idols.. Many idols now were in Battle Shinhwa
33. They had “Love Letter”..variety initially made for them for their 7th jib promotion.. Shinhwa was fixed cast in almost all S1
34. Due to season 1’s high popularity, Love Letter was extended to Season 2-3 though Shinhwa wasn’t permanent casts anymore
35. Shinhwa members were frequently guesting in XMAN too.. XMAN had 2 Shinhwa Special episode (XMAN 20 and Germany special) XD
36. Most SHCJs became fans after watching them in both shows.. like bcos of Shinhwa Broadcast recently xD
37. During GoodEnt time, they released 3 regular album (7-9th jib), 1 summer album (or album-single XD), 2/3(?) winter album…
38. During GoodEnt time too..they all embarked on their solo activities: acting, musicals, and solo albums..
39. In 2006(or 2007?) some members left Good Ent for their individual activities, created disbandment rumor once again
40. Bcos no group idols’ members had separate agencies for solo and group activity.. so there was rumor they’d disband
41. To which Dongwan said “Shinhwa isn’t a choice but destiny” to emphasize he wouldn’t leave the group and they wouldn’t disband
42. and Jinnie assured “we’ll be together even though we’re married and hv kids” XDDD
43. 2006 was the first time they held Asia Tour until Thailand+Singapore.. Became the first kpop group to hold concert in SG
44. Unlike idols now who hold annual concert overseas (asia/world tour), Shinhwa never did so.. Too lazy? /joking/ U_U =]]]
45. Beside 2012 Asia Tour, 2007 was the last time they held concert tour “Shinhwa Forever”
46. 8th Jib (SoTA) was the last album they promoted before hiatus.. The last time they went to variety shows as 6 too..
47. 9th Jib, which was released in 2008 before hiatus, had no promotion whatsoever. Only held 10th anniversary concert
48. Even though they had no promotion at all, 9th jib’s sales went over 100k copies and won them Bonsang in 2008.
49. Eric enlisted first..then Dongwan.. Jinnie..Andy..and last, Minwoo in 2010. Only Hyesung was exempted due to knee injury
50. All in public service…except Andy who went in active duty XD
51. Eric and Andy were US citizens.. yet they changed their citizenship to Korean it’s said so they can join the military service
52. Minwoo enlisted last due to car accident he suffered. His discharge was pushed back too bcos his used SNS at working hours
53. Oh.. Shinhwa released Japanese single ‘There’s sunshine in our hearts” (bokura niwa taiyou ga aru) and album “inspiration #1”
54. Eric’s discharged first in 2010 then Dongwan. Eric started drama “poseidon” (cancelled u.u) Dongwan went to various variety
55. They started preparation of 2012 comeback since one by one were discharged from military. Started w/ ShinCom establishment
56. ShinCom established after Eric obtained OW’s permission to use Shinhwa’s name. ShinCom established last year
57. Eric+Minwoo are CEOs. Six of them provided same amount of capital to establish ShinCom
58. Liveworks,TopClass,OpenWorld support ShinCom’s operation. LW takes care of domestic+album promo. OW takes care overseas promo
59. But after OW CEO’s scandal..I guess all overseas promo are taken care by LW (mostly) and TopClass.
60. They hv started preparing their cb long before 2012. so their cb wasn’t “unexpected” XD DW promoted it too in many shows
61. As we already know..they officially started promotion after Minwoo’s discharged and held press conference in March 5th
62. They considered “Venus” and “Red Carpet” for title track..but decided on “Venus” in February
63. They promised to release the album before their concert and released only 30k copies limited edition (sold out half a day)
64. They released Thanks Edition on April and stated “scolded by fans” as the main reason for the thanks ed release u_u =]]
65. Shinhwa finally fulfill their long-time-wish to hv variety show of their own like SMAP: “Shinhwa Broadcast”
66. Shinhwa chose JTBC to air it simply bcos they offered first..and the concept matched w/ what they wanted
67. ShinBang scheduled for 30eps..but Andy said if the rating is good..it may be extended
68. Shinhwa never performed in Inkigayo during their comeback. Nor guesting in any SBS variety shows. Except You&I (Hyori is MC)
69. No idea why Shinhwa couldn’t be on SBS at all.There’s rumor in Korean medias that SBS banned them bcos they chose JTBC for ShinBang,not them

86. Shinhwa used to hv more than 2 MVs from an album.. Only 10th album got only ONE MV ;-;
87. Shinhwa’s official color is orange (any orange..esp the faintest and the darkest ones)..for group activity and members’ solo
88. Though SHCJs can be said as a calm fandom and Shinhwa is laid-back idol..but they both can be fierce in color matters =]]
89. During solo activities.. members’ fans are also called “shinhwa changjo” no individual fandom (or fandom inside fandom XD)

107. Unlike H.O.T’s mysterious image, Shinhwa’s always had approachable+friendly image since debut..even often destroying themselves on shows.. lol.. Wan even said “while H.O.T couldn’t even go to toilet..we waved to fans while peeing on street” /facepalm/ U_U

109. Shinhwa means “legend” or “myth” in Korean.. They truly live up to their name, don’t they? xD

111. Shinhwa has been holding the record+title as “longest running kpop idol group” for 10 years…since 2002-2012

1. August 1st(?) is the official establishment date of ShinCom.. but the negotation had started months before…
2. as mentioned before..OWE held copyright for Shinhwa’s name.. so Eric had to go thru long negotiation process with them, to be able to use “Shinhwa” name for their company^^ Negotiation involves Shinhwa members and led by Eric
3. as their contract w/ Good Ent ended in 2008..Shinhwa didn’t hv any agency to take care of their group activity..so instead of choosing one of members’ solo agency or another agency.. Shinhwa decided to establish their own company..
4. ShinCom is for Shinhwa’s group activity.. for solo, each members has been managed under different agencies ^^
